Sliwa began his career as a delivery boy for the New York Daily News. During this period, he was also named “Newsboy of the Year” and received a trip to the White House after rescuing several people from a burning building while on his route.
He went on to work as a night manager at a McDonald’s on Fordham Road in the Bronx. Curtis began working as a radio presenter on WABC-AM in 1990. He spent around four years at the station. Later that year, in 1994, he was hired by the then-city-owned public radio station WNYC. In 2000, he and attorney Ron Kuby co-hosted the long-running Curtis and Kuby in the Morning. For eight years, the team hosted the show before being replaced by Don Imus.
Curtis & Kuby, Curtis Sliwa LIVE, Drive Time on WNYM, and other programmes were also presented by Sliwa. On January 2, 2014, he returned to WABC-AM and took over for Rush Limbaugh. The Establishment of Guardian Angels
Curtis founded Magnificent 13, an organization dedicated to eliminating violence and crime on the New York City Subway, in May 1977. The Magnificent 13 developed and was renamed the Guardian Angels in 1979.
Eighty percent of the group’s members were Hispanic or Black. Before they could be deployed, individuals needed to be trained in karate and meet the legal standards for citizen arrest.
The acts of the group elicited strong reactions, both favorable and negative. The organization was lauded by then-Lieutenant Governor Mario Cuomo, who said:
“They are a higher moral statement than our city deserves.”
The club eventually expanded outside of the United States to over 130 cities and 13 countries throughout the world, including Australia, Germany, Canada, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and others.

He later married his third wife, Mary Sliwa, who was also the national director of the Guardian Angel. In the year 2000, they married and had a son named Anthony Chester. The couple divorced in 2012. Curtis married his fourth wife, Nancy Regula, on July 5, 2018. She is an animal rights activist and an attorney. The couple is said to live on the Upper West Side with their rescue pets.
He was reportedly romantically linked to Melinda Katz, an attorney and politician. They also have two children that were conceived in utero. According to the New York Daily News, they split up on Election Day 2014. Katz currently lived in Forest Hills with her two sons.
