What temperature should I set my water heater at? ›

120 degrees Fahrenheit is the safety recommendation against scalding, but 140° is the common default setting. Most experts agree that anything below 120 degrees creates a risk for bacteria to develop inside your water heater from stagnant water, such as legionella that causes Legionnaire's disease.

Shallow cover becomes the prime target and finding bait often puts you in the bass. Bass are most active from 65-80 degree water temps. So if your waters are in that range a whole host of lures will work.

The best temperature range for water to be absorbed and rehydrate effectively is between 10-22 degrees Celsius (50 - 72 degrees Fahrenheit). While people have different preferences for water temperature, room temperature or slightly cool water is considered ideal for consumption.

The EPA recommends 120 degrees because it's hot enough to keep diseases at bay, it's not hot enough to cause scalding, will supply enough hot water for most small families, and is relatively energy-efficient. However, the best setting for you could vary based on a few factors.

The American Society of Sanitary Engineering recommends that hot water tanks be set from 135 to 140 degrees, to inhibit the growth of Legionella bacteria, with the installation of anti-scald devices and tempering valves to prevent hot water injuries.
